am Joelle D. Johnson born 8/19/86 in Greenville, NC, currently residing in Raleigh, NC. My parents are William and Rosemary Johnson and I am the youngest of their 3 children at 19. My single mother is my best inspiration and biggest fan. She raised us all by herself since I was 2. she has shown me the kind of women I want to be and instilled so much strength in her children. I began writing poetry at the age of 15. So I have been in this game for only 4 years, but as most say I express knowledge beyond my years. Though none have been published I have written 2 books and currently working on a third.
The tittles include "Poetic Ministry", "Open Heart", and "Real Is Real" still in progress. A sample of my poetry can also be viewed at Jacquii's Poetry Spot as poem of the moment.
I began my writing career as basically a spiritual writer but as I have gotten older as well as grown as a person my style has changed and grown with me. As I grew as a poet I began live performances of my poetry.
Places that I have performed at or just enjoying going to include: Shairi’s Poetry Lounge (every 1st Saturday), Club Black Tie (every Wednesday), McDonalds Wake Forest Road (every Friday) and the Marvell Event Center.
I have learned to write about the many topics that trouble us as a people. I feel free when I write. It is a form of expression that is uncompromised and unchanged. It is an art form that gives me the freedom to be me. So thus when i write i am LyrikallyFree.
